Easter Promenade

The Hat Ladies Easter Promenade is always held the Saturday of Easter weekend.  Notice the use of the word "promenade."  As the Post and Courier indicated, it is not walking. It is not sashaying.  It is not strutting.  Promenading.  Defined as a 'leisurely walk taken for pleasure, to display one's finery, etc.' It is "hats off to our Hat Ladies, proud preservationists of promenading."

Our Promenade honors the traditions of hat-wearing and the traditions of Charleston. Moreover, it supports Child Abuse Prevention Month, with the wearing of blue ribbons. One of our Ladies fondly recalls the stories her Grandmother told of "...how they'd dress to the nine's, put on their Easter bonnets, take all the children and husbands, and promenade down at White Point Gardens while the band played on."

Mark your Calendar for Saturday, March 22, 2008 when we'll meet once again at the Four Corners of Law (Washington Park) at 10:30.  When the clock of St. Michael's chimes eleven times, our Promenade begins.
