(next year: April 7, 2012)
Thank you for bringing Charleston an event that truly sets it apart! Meredith Siemens
Our Promenade is respectful of the Easter holiday and welcomes the spring season in a bouquet of hats of all colors. It is called a "Promenade," as opposed to a "parade," since it reflects the grace, gentility, and traditions of Charleston. As The Post and Courier wrote, "It is not walking. It is not sashaying. It is not strutting. It is a leisurely walk taken for pleasure, to display one's finery, etc.' It is "hats off to our Hat Ladies, proud preservationists of promenading."
It is with the greatest pleasure we get feedback from those who have come to watch and wave and receive our Hatpy Easter greetings. Alice Ann Wiedecke took the time to call and say, "I cannot thank you enough for your gift to everyone. The Promenade could not have been lovelier. It was absolutely beautiful, exquisite; out of this world. It reminded us of the times of grace and beauty, something we all need in our own lives."
The Hat Ladies Easter Promenade is always held the Saturday of Easter Weekend. We hope all will bring cameras, take a curb side seat, and join Alice next year, on Saturday, April 7, 2012.
