DETERMINING THE RIGHT WAY TO WEAR YOUR HAT

You've bought or made your hat. Now wHATa ya gonna do with it?

Try on the hat from every angle; you are not limited to having the label in the back; you do not have to wear a hat exactly as the manufacturer imagined it.

Use those 3-way mirrors.  See tHAT hat from EVERY direction.

Once you determine which way(s) the hat sits/feels right on your head, analyze your "hatitude:"

  • Are you a more out-going "in your face" type of gal? If so, put tHAT bow/flower/wHATever up front and center.
  • Do you prefer to be a bit more coy or demur? If so, place the decoration in the back. Walk on by, knowing the "surprise" you're giving the viewing audience.
  • Then again, you might feel you're somewhere in between the above hatitudes. Do not despair; oftentimes, your decoration can go on the side of your hat. Your admirers will catch you coming and going.
  • Flip soft brims up, down, or part up and part down.

Play with the position of your hat. Remember tHAT friend you brought with on your hat shopping spree?

  • Let him/her TOUCH your hat and reposition it.
  • Learn to feel comfortable when some else "works" your hat; it's to your hatadvantage!

Consider wearing tHAT hat at an angle!

THIS TIP IS PROBABLY THE BEST OF ALL!  A "jaunty" even "lopsided look" takes the plainest hat and gives it pizzazz...and you along with it!  NEVER wear a hat on the back of your head!

Placing the hat on the forehead with no more than one finger's width above the eyebrow and slipping the crown down on the head where the top of the hat is actually touching the top of your head is usually the most intriguing way to wear it.

  • Daytime: wear hats straight on the head or tilted mysteriously over one eye--NEVER on the back of the head (tHAT's for little girls only)
  • Evening: tip hats forward at seemingly precarious angles
  • Day or night: if you're showing skin, wear a wider brim; it adds the right proportion

In all the excitement, don't forget tHAT how the hat looks from the neck up is only part of the story. Stand in front of a full-length mirror with your hat on and check your total image...hat to toe!
