HISTORIC CHARLESTON FOUNDATION FESTIVAL OF HOUSES AND GARDENS
The preservation movement began in Charleston, South Carolina in the late 1920's. Therefore, the movement to restore and preserve historic structures is a Charleston tradition, carried on by two local societies: The Historic Charleston Foundation, www.historiccharleston.org and The Preservation Society, www.preservationsociety.org. Each Organization has a month long tour of homes, gardens, and churches, graciously opened to the public by the owners.
Therefore, there is no better way for The Hat Ladies to show our love of our Holy City than to be docents (guides). Besides, our hats symbolize the style and grace that IS Charleston.
THE HAT LADIES WORKING DURING THE SPRING TOUR OF HOMES & GARDENS
Top Hat, Archie, was the Street Chair for The King Street Tour, and The Hat Ladies were there to give the locals and tourists alike the best Tour of all. After all, nothing says "Charleston" more than lovely Ladies (and their Hat Men) in hats supporting the community!

Please note many other Hat Ladies serve as docents throughout the month long Festival of Houses & Gardens. We're just not always able to catch them on camera!
