Microwaved water and other liquids can actually get superheated and not bubble at all. The superheated liquid will bubble up out of the cup when it is moved or when something like a wooden spoon or tea bag is put into it. To prevent this from happening and causing injury, do not heat any liquid for more than two minutes per cup. After heating, let the cup stand in the microwave for thirty seconds! Before moving it or adding anything into it.*

Keep weeds away w/ wet newspapers layered around plants and squirrels away by sprinkling cayenne pepper

Keep mosquitoes away with dryer sheet in your pocket

Keep ants away by sprinkling cornmeal (inside and out)

Keep fruit flies away by mixing half a glass of apple cider vinegar and 2 drops dish washing liquid

Keep static away from dress or slacks by placing small safety pin in seam

Keep mosquitoes at bay by getting a spray bottle and filling with Listerine

Aluminum foil: “Press here to lock end” at the end of the box keeps roll from unraveling

Take bananas apart when you get home to extend their life, then peel them from bottom

Store open chunks of cheese in aluminum foil

Add a t of water when frying ground beef to pull grease away

Add a few spoonfuls of sour/heavy/or cream cheese to make scrambled eggs or omelets richer

Be leery of anything made with mayonnaise that is offered at a public buffet or on a public salad bar.  Some bacteria produce a toxin that can not be destroyed by cooking. Keep hot foods hot, and cold foods cold, and if in doubt throw it out.

Avoid cooked rice on a buffet table; it begins to have harmful bacteria within a very short period of time (tip comes from a Hat Lady whose background is food safety standards)

Margarine is only one molecule away from being plastic and shares 27 ingredients with paint; better to buy butter

When peeling potatoes, score all the way around; boil 15 minutes; remove from water with tongs; place in ice water (with ice cubes); move around about 10 sec., skin peels right off

Reopen sealed envelope by placing it in freezer for an hour or so.

Before pouring sticky substances into a measuring cup, fill it with hot water. Dump it out, but don’t dry. Now add ingredient

Clothes Dryer:  It is not enough to wipe off the lint on your screen; you must wash it with hot soapy water and a toothbrush from time to time to make certain the holes are not plugged up (otherwise you risk a fire from the build up of heat and damaging the life of your dryer)

Do not bring any new purchases of cloth items home and place them immediately in closets or drawers..  Instead put all new clothing (including underwear, socks, sheets, towels, etc) into your clothes dryer for at least 20 minutes. The heat will kill any bugs or eggs they might be harboring from the country that exported them.
